PFLAG and Stay Close ring the Closing Bell at the NYSE

Dates: Friday, June 30 - Friday, June 30

Today PFLAG made history as the second gay organization to ring the Closing Bell at the New York Stock Exchange. The first gay organization was the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Please go to NYSE.com to see a picture of the PFLAG members and supporters rigging the bell. Walter Schubert, founder of Gay Financial Network (GFN.com) and openly gay member of the NYSE hosted a luncheon for PFLAG and Stay Close at the Downtown Association. The honored guests were Barbara Cook (Broadway legend, part of the Stay Close campaign), Alan Hevesi (State Comptroller), and Catherine Kinney (co-president of NYSE), who spoke of advocating diversity in the work place. Other distinguished guests were: Betsy Gotham (NYC Public Advocate), Andy Tobias (Treasurer of the Democratic National Committee), Suzanne Ramos and Dew Tagliabue (PFLAG NYC board members and Stay Close co-founders), Sam Thoron (Director of the PFLAG Board of Directors), Jody Huckaby (Executive Director of PFLAG National). PFLAG and Stay Close are thankful to all those who made this event possible. We've come a long way and there's still a ways to go, but today we should be proud of such a milestone: the NYSE celebrating Pride Month with PFLAG and sending the message loud and clear that LGBT people should be accepted everywhere and to Stay Close to your loved ones. (The Closing Bell is watched by 120 million viewers, no less!).
